The Dallas Cowboys have added Tyler Goodson to their backfield depth after waiving Israel Abanikanda and placing Goodson on the practice squad. The move comes after Dallas released 2025 draft selections Phil Mafah and Jaydon Blue late in training camp.
Goodson is joining the Cowboys after leading the Atlanta Falcons in preseason rushing with 92 yards, including a 49-yard touchdown. An injury to Malik Davis has created a need for additional backfield depth, although the source said Goodson's opportunities to play appear limited and that Dallas is retaining him as roster protection.
Falcons running back Bijan Robinson praised Goodson in an interview with Blogging The Boys' RJ Ochoa. Robinson described him as an elite player who can cut across the field, contribute as a receiver and fill several offensive roles. He also said he wished Goodson had stayed in Atlanta.
With the Indianapolis Colts, Goodson totaled 264 rushing yards and one touchdown on 54 carries across his first three NFL seasons. He also made 19 receptions for 103 yards and scored another touchdown. Dallas is preparing for Week 2 against the Washington Commanders after opening with a loss to the New York Giants.
The Cowboys had fewer than 100 rushing yards in that game, with Javonte Williams gaining 41.
