A Masterclass in Efficiency
Arch Manning executed a near-flawless performance on Saturday, completing 16 of his 20 pass attempts for 220 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Texas Longhorns to a decisive 31-3 victory over the Mississippi State Bulldogs. The win improved Texas’s record to 6-2, while Mississippi State fell to 4-4 in their respective conference standings.
Manning’s precision was the driving force behind the offensive surge. He connected with three different receivers for scores, showcasing a high level of accuracy that kept the Bulldogs’ defense off balance throughout the contest. His efficiency was highlighted by a perfect completion rate on touchdown drives, ensuring that every scoring opportunity resulted in six points.
First Half Dominance
Texas established control early, opening the scoring in the first period with a 14-yard touchdown pass to Cam Coleman. Gianni Spetic’s extra point made it 7-0. The Longhorns extended their lead late in the second quarter when Spetic drilled a 45-yard field goal, pushing the advantage to 10-0 before halftime.
The momentum shifted even further in Texas's favor during the second period when Maraad Watson returned a fumble 61 yards for a touchdown. The defensive stop and subsequent score widened the gap to 17-0, effectively putting any hopes of a Mississippi State comeback on hold early in the game.
Bulldogs Find Limited Success
Mississippi State managed only three points for the entire afternoon, coming in the third quarter when kicker Kyle Ferrie made a 30-yard field goal. The Bulldogs’ offense struggled to generate sustained drives against Texas’s disciplined front seven. Running back Fluff Bothwell carried the ball 17 times for 49 yards, while quarterback AJ Swann completed 12 of his 15 passes for 97 yards.
