The Houston Texans are gearing up for their preseason matchup with the Las Vegas Raiders on August 20, facing notable challenges. The team has lost wide receiver Jayden Higgins to a torn ACL, which will keep him out for the entire season. This injury is a significant blow to the offensive unit guided by quarterback C.J.
Stroud, who has experienced a decline in performance following a strong rookie season.
Despite these obstacles, Stroud is expected to participate in the game, playing a few series that could total around 25 plays. The Texans plan to start their first-string offensive line, while the first-team defense will not be on the field.
In Higgins' absence, Stroud will rely heavily on wide receiver Nico Collins, who had an impressive previous season, achieving 71 catches for 1,117 yards and six touchdowns. Additional support will come from receivers Tank Dell, Xavier Hutchinson, and Jaylin Noel, all of whom must step up. Dell, who missed last season due to injury, had previously built a strong rapport with Stroud.
Noel was drafted shortly after Higgins and was college teammates with him at Iowa State.
