Caden Powell, a former Baylor basketball player from Waco, is set to rejoin the team for the 2026-27 season after a recent court ruling in Ohio. Powell, who previously played at Wyoming and Rice, joined Baylor last year and was initially expected to be a backup center. However, injuries on the team led him to finish the season as a starter.
This season, Baylor's roster is undergoing significant changes, with head coach Scott Drew and his staff aiming to create a deeper lineup capable of withstanding a full season and competing effectively in March. Powell's return is a notable enhancement, filling out the team's depth chart.
Although Powell may not immediately take on a starting role, he is anticipated to contribute significantly off the bench. His defensive skills and potential as a lob threat are expected to be valuable for the Bears.
The projected depth chart for Baylor includes guards Kayden Mingo and Dylan Mingo as starters, with a rotation featuring Isaac Williams IV, Brett Decker Jr., and Andre Iguodala Jr. The forward positions will see Isaac Celiscar and Evan Chatman starting, while Juslin Bodo Bodo is set to start at center, with Powell in the rotation alongside Mayo Soyoye.
Powell's experience will be crucial for the relatively young team as they work on building chemistry and leadership ahead of the season.
