Greene's Early Blast Sets Tone
A two-run home run by Greene in the first inning provided the only runs the Detroit Tigers would need in a 3-0 victory over the Texas Rangers on Saturday at Globe Life Field. Greene connected on a 386-foot shot to right field, driving in Carpenter to establish an early 2-0 lead for the visiting team.
The Rangers, playing at home, were unable to respond to the early deficit. Detroit’s pitching staff held Texas hitless through multiple innings, eventually securing a complete shutout. The Tigers improved their record to 39-50, while the Rangers fell to 45-44.
Tigers Pitching Dominates
Detroit utilized a trio of pitchers to keep the Rangers off the scoreboard. Jack Flaherty earned the win, pitching 5.2 innings and allowing just three hits while striking out five batters. He was supported by Tyler Holton, who pitched 0.1 innings without allowing a hit, and Keider Montero, who closed out the game with three scoreless innings for his 11th save.
Flaherty’s performance was particularly notable given the Rangers' offensive output. Cal Quantrill took the loss for Texas, pitching 5.0 innings and allowing two earned runs on three hits. He was joined in the mound rotation by Tyler Alexander, who threw one inning with two strikeouts, Benjamin Peoples, who pitched two innings, and Chris Martin, who closed with a scoreless frame.
