Klassen Leads Angels Past Astros

Los Angeles Angels pitcher George Klassen threw seven scoreless innings to lead his team to a 3-1 victory over the Houston Astros at Daikin Park on Wednesday. The Angels, who were the visiting team, took control of the game with a steady offensive effort that capitalized on Houston's pitching struggles.

Klassen, who improved his record to 2-1, allowed just one hit and struck out seven batters while issuing three walks. His performance anchored the Angels' pitching staff, which included relief appearances by Jose Fermin, Ryan Watson, and Ben Joyce.

Scoring Sequence

The Angels opened the scoring in the third inning. Mike Schanuel singled to center field, allowing Joaquin Meckler to score and moving Mike Trout to third base. This play put the Angels ahead 1-0.

In the fourth inning, the away team extended their lead when Lowe homered to left field, a drive of 345 feet that scored one run and made the score 2-0. The Angels added their third run in the fifth inning when Neto doubled to shortstop, enabling Schanuel to score from second base.

The Houston Astros, batting in the bottom half of innings, managed only one run in their entire game. They broke their scoreless drought in the eighth inning when Smith hit a home run to left field, a blast of 415 feet that brought the final score to 3-1.

Pitching and Records

Houston's starter Cristian Javier took the loss, improving his record to 1-4. He pitched four innings, allowing five hits and two earned runs while striking out five batters. The Astros' bullpen, featuring Bryan King, Enyel De Los Santos, AJ Blubaugh, and Miguel Ullola, combined to allow one earned run over the final five innings.

The Angels' relief corps was effective, with Ben Joyce recording the save in one inning of work, striking out two batters. Attendance at Daikin Park was 22,767. Following the game, the Houston Astros stand at 63-63, while the Los Angeles Angels are 50-76.

The Angels' two home runs in the game were hit by Lowe and Smith, while the Astros recorded no extra-base hits in their scoring plays. The Angels' three runs came from singles, a home run, and a double, while Houston's single run was a home run.
