As the regular season approaches, the Houston Texans have made several roster improvements, including the addition of former No. 1 overall pick Jadeveon Clowney and defensive lineman Mario Edwards. However, the team has not significantly altered its wide receiver lineup, choosing instead to rely on younger talent already on the roster.
The prospects for acquiring a notable wide receiver are diminishing. Key players such as Deebo Samuel, Stefon Diggs, and Keenan Allen have recently signed with other teams, reducing Houston's available options. Although Tyreek Hill is still a free agent, concerns regarding his recovery from a torn ACL make his signing unlikely.
Other potential additions, including Curtis Samuel, Brandin Cooks, Tyler Lockett, and DeAndre Hopkins, may not provide a substantial boost to the Texans' depth chart.
Currently, the Texans are likely to stick with their existing wide receiver group, featuring players like Nico Collins as a potential WR1 and Jayden Higgins as a possible WR2. Contributions are also expected from Jaylin Noel and Xavier Hutchinson, along with a healthy Tank Dell. Despite the lack of a major acquisition, the Texans' front office seems confident in their current roster.
With over $20 million in cap space available, they retain the ability to make adjustments if needed, though the chances of adding a significant wide receiver before the season begins appear slim.
