Kevin Jennings, the standout quarterback for the SMU Mustangs, is reportedly ready to participate in the season opener against the Florida State Seminoles. This news follows a finger injury he incurred earlier this month when it was caught in a locker room door during fall camp.
Head coach Rhett Lashlee expressed optimism regarding Jennings' recovery, mentioning that the redshirt senior has resumed throwing without any discomfort. Lashlee indicated that Jennings will have a complete two weeks to prepare for the matchup, aiming for him to be fully fit by game day.
Lashlee provided insights into Jennings' progress, stating, "Things are progressing well. He feels no pain, and we are integrating him back into practice this week, anticipating he will be fully ready for game one." Reports from ESPN's Pete Thamel confirmed that Jennings has started throwing again as he moves closer to returning.
The injury was not deemed serious, and Jennings' presence is viewed as crucial for SMU's performance this season. Last year, he recorded impressive statistics, including 3,641 passing yards, 26 touchdowns, and a completion rate of 66.1%. However, he also led the ACC with 13 interceptions, indicating an area for growth as he prepares for the upcoming season.
