Doug McNamee, Baylor's new athletic director, has not set a specific win total for head coach Dave Aranda to meet in order to keep his position beyond the 2026 season. Instead, he has stressed the importance of restoring momentum and garnering wider support for the football program.
In comments shared by CBS Sports college football writer Shehan Jeyarajah, McNamee noted that the focus should not solely be on numbers. He stated, "It’s the momentum; it’s the feel, and it’s the vibe around the program."
This clarifies the expectations for Aranda as he heads into his seventh season at Baylor, emphasizing the need for a competitive atmosphere within the Big 12 and adaptation to name, image, and likeness (NIL) opportunities.
McNamee also called for greater commitment from supporters, urging them to engage with the program through attendance and financial contributions to NIL initiatives and scholarships. He remarked, "We need greater commitment and investment from our constituency."
Aranda's record at Baylor currently stands at 36-37, with a notable 2021 season that included a Big 12 championship. However, the team has struggled recently, posting a 22-28 record and three losing seasons in the past four years. As Baylor prepares for its upcoming season against Auburn, McNamee has made it clear that progress and belief in the program are essential for continued support.
