Jared Nuness, who previously served as an assistant men's basketball coach at Baylor University, has been sanctioned by the NCAA after admitting to placing around 3,400 bets totaling approximately $38,000 on various professional and college sports. This action follows an investigation initiated by a third-party system that identified Nuness in November 2025.
Baylor conducted its own investigation and reported the findings to the NCAA in December 2025, which led to a collaborative inquiry. In February 2026, Nuness confessed to the NCAA that he breached its regulations by wagering on professional sports using two online platforms.
He also acknowledged that he permitted his minor son to access these betting accounts, which resulted in the child making three bets on NCAA Division I men's basketball games, totaling $170.
The NCAA's report indicated that Nuness's betting activities did not involve Baylor University or its student-athletes. He took full responsibility for his actions, and an agreement was reached with the NCAA enforcement staff to categorize the case as a Level II-Standard violation.
Following his departure from Baylor's coaching staff in December 2025 due to personal issues, Nuness is now subject to a two-year show-cause order. This order requires him to complete significant sports betting education and provide similar training to his colleagues. He will also face a 10 percent suspension from all athletically related activities, equivalent to a three-game suspension, along with a public reprimand and censure.
