Baylor will be without defensive tackle Devonte Tezino for the remainder of the season after he suffered a leg injury in the Bears’ victory over Prairie View A&M.

Tezino had recorded two sacks against Auburn and emerged as an early contributor. After Baylor’s season opener, coach Dave Aranda had identified him as one of the team’s leading performers on the interior. Aranda also said the team would miss the preparation Tezino invested to reach that level.

The injury leaves Baylor’s other defensive linemen with expanded roles. Braylen Jackson could see additional opportunities after contributing against the run. Aranda said Jackson plays with physicality and that his run defense provides confidence.

Baylor began the season with its defensive line considered a major strength, but Tezino’s absence will challenge the group’s depth for the rest of the schedule. The Bears were already without senior safety and defensive leader Jacob Redding, who suffered a torn ACL before the season opener against Auburn.
