Avelo Airlines has announced plans to launch commercial passenger service at McKinney National Airport, with the first flights scheduled to depart on November 11. The carrier will operate nonstop routes to Las Vegas, Nevada, and four destinations in Florida: Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, Orlando, and Tampa.
The airline, which is based in Texas, stated that the new operation will generate more than 100 jobs. To attract passengers, the company is offering introductory one-way fares starting at $99. Additionally, travelers who complete their bookings through Avelo Airlines before August will receive their first checked bag at no cost.
Andrew Levy, the founder and chief executive officer of Avelo Airlines, described the launch as a significant moment for the carrier. He highlighted the airline's focus on low fares, the convenience of using the McKinney facility, and its record for on-time performance as key benefits for customers.
Local officials have expressed support for the development. McKinney Mayor Bill Cox welcomed the airline to the region, thanking the company for its confidence in the local market and its decision to invest in the airport. Airport Director Ken Carley noted that residents will benefit from saving time and money by flying from a local airport on a carrier dedicated to community investment.
Avelo Airlines entered the market in 2021, marking the first new commercial airline in the United States in 15 years. The carrier currently provides service to 37 destinations across 15 states, as well as two locations in Puerto Rico. McKinney National Airport, which opened in 1979, is located approximately 11 miles south of Anna.
