Neighborhood block parties around Anna will get visits from police officers, firefighters and city staff Tuesday evening as the city marks National Night Out.
The city calendar lists the event from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6. National Night Out is meant to bring neighbors together, build friendships and get residents working with police and fire to keep the community safe and connected, the city says.
Visits are tied to registration. Neighborhoods that signed up their parties by the Monday, Sept. 28, deadline can expect Anna Police, Fire and city staff to stop by, according to the city's Sept. 25 newsletter. Registered parties were also entered in a drawing to win use of the city's Block Party Trailer.
Residents whose street did not register can still head outside and meet the people next door; the city's newsletter did not list a public central gathering site.
Fire safety class Friday
Anna Fire Rescue is back with the public later in the week. A fire safety program is on the city calendar for Friday, Oct. 9, at the Anna Community Library, 111 W. 5th St., with the listing running from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The hands-on class covers safe battery charging, general fire safety and a fire-safety obstacle course, according to the city's recreation catalog, which asks participants to sign up there. Kids are encouraged to come dressed as superheroes.
