Paint cans in the garage, a dead car battery, the old desktop computer in the closet: the City of Anna will take all of it off residents' hands at a free household hazardous waste and electronics collection on Saturday, Oct. 24.

The drop-off runs from 8 a.m. to noon at Anna Municipal Plaza, 120 W. Seventh St. The city says the event is limited to Anna residents, proof of residency is required and space is limited. It goes on rain or shine, and staff will help unload vehicles.

What to bring

The city's list of accepted hazardous materials is long. It includes paints, stains, varnishes and paint thinners; motor oil, oil filters, antifreeze, brake fluid, gasoline and other fuel; batteries; aerosol cans; household cleaners, degreasers and drain cleaners; pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, fertilizers and pest strips; pool, photo, craft and hobby chemicals; acids and solvents; fluorescent lights and items containing mercury; and propane and helium tanks.

Electronics are welcome too: home computers, printers, scanners, keyboards, fax machines, televisions, receivers, projectors, and DVD players and game consoles.

What stays home

The collection will not accept ammunition, explosives, biohazardous or radioactive waste, tires or pharmaceuticals.

Questions go to the City of Anna at 972-924-3325.
