The Texas Stock Exchange, the Dallas-based market that opened for trading in July, took on its first corporate primary listings Monday.

Energy Transfer, Sunoco, SunocoCorp and USA Compression Partners moved their primary listings to TXSE starting Oct. 5, according to an exchange notice to its members. Together the four Energy Transfer-affiliated companies are worth close to $100 billion in market value, The Dallas Express reported.

Dillard's also shifted its Class A common stock and a trust security from the New York Stock Exchange. A TXSE listing notice dated Sept. 28 said the exchange expected to admit both on Oct. 5, after the retailer told federal regulators in September it would voluntarily withdraw them from the NYSE.

The tickers

The companies kept their existing symbols, according to the TXSE notice:

  • Energy Transfer common units (ET) and its 9.25% Series I preferred units (ET-PRI)
  • Sunoco common units (SUN)
  • SunocoCorp common units (SUNC)
  • USA Compression common units (USAC)
  • Dillard's Class A common stock (DDS) and the 7.5% capital securities of Dillard's Capital Trust I (DDT)

A primary listing names the exchange that oversees a company's listing relationship, though its shares can still change hands on other trading venues.

How the exchange got here

TXSE began quoting and trading in July as part of a phased rollout meant to compete with the NYSE and Nasdaq, The Dallas Express reported. Its first primary listings came Sept. 16, when Texas Capital's Texas Equity Index ETF and Texas Oil Index ETF moved over from NYSE Arca.

The exchange said in September that S&P Dow Jones Indices, MSCI and FTSE Russell had adjusted their rules so that companies with a TXSE primary listing can stay eligible for their indexes.

Energy Transfer, headquartered in Dallas, announced its move Sept. 10. It runs about 140,000 miles of pipeline and related energy infrastructure, the company said. At the time, TXSE Chairman and CEO James H. Lee said the shift of primary listings from New York to Texas "has begun."

The exchange describes itself as a fully electronic national securities exchange, and its listings business is aimed both at companies going public and at established companies moving existing listings.
