Sandell settles the score
47 yards was the distance on Tate Sandell’s game-ending field goal, which gave the Oklahoma Sooners a 27-24 victory over the Texas Longhorns on Saturday, Oct. 10, 2026, at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas. The kick completed a fourth-quarter rally by Oklahoma, which scored 17 points in the period after trailing Texas 17-10 entering the final quarter.

Oklahoma tied the game at 17-17 when Lloyd Avant scored on a 2-yard run, with Sandell adding the extra point. Texas then moved back in front, 24-17, on Peyton Bowen’s 42-yard interception return and the ensuing Sandell kick. Texas answered with Jermaine Bishop Jr.’s 15-yard touchdown reception from Arch Manning, followed by Gianni Spetic’s kick, to make it 24-24.
Sandell’s 47-yard field goal came next and provided the final points.
How the game unfolded
Texas opened the scoring in the first period on Manning’s 41-yard touchdown pass to Cam Coleman, with Spetic’s kick making it 7-0. Oklahoma evened the score in the second period when Dakoda Fields returned a blocked punt 0 yards for a touchdown, followed by Sandell’s kick.
Manning then connected with Ryan Wingo for a 34-yard touchdown, and Spetic’s 23-yard field goal sent Texas to halftime ahead 17-7.
