Quarterback DJ Lagway has made the move to Baylor University after experiencing a tough season at the University of Florida. Lagway, who was highly regarded as the No. 3 ranked player in his class, began his tenure at Florida with high hopes as the anticipated successor to Graham Mertz.
After Mertz's injury during the sixth game, Lagway took over as the starter, leading the Gators to a 5-1 record in the final six games, which included wins over ranked teams.
However, Lagway's second season did not go as planned. He faced injuries and significant setbacks, including a disappointing loss to South Florida, marking Florida's first defeat against the Bulls. A particularly challenging game against LSU, where Lagway threw five interceptions, contributed to the Gators' overall record of 4-8, ultimately leading to the dismissal of head coach Billy Napier.
Lagway entered the Transfer Portal and has now joined Baylor, where he will be under the guidance of head coach Dave Aranda. Former Florida quarterback Tim Tebow remarked on Lagway's transfer, emphasizing the need for a fresh environment to help him succeed.
Lagway's debut with Baylor will be against Auburn, a significant contest for both him and Coach Aranda as they look to improve from last season's performance. This game will take place at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, with kickoff scheduled for 3:30 PM (ET) on ABC.
