Texas offensive lineman Cole Hutson may play this season after Judge Maria Cantu Hexel of Austin’s 53rd District Court granted a temporary injunction, according to sports.yahoo.com, which cited Chip Brown of Horns247. The decision does not establish when Hutson could return to game action.
Hutson had been declared ineligible ahead of Texas’ Week 2 matchup with Ohio State. On Sept. 7, coach Steve Sarkisian said the player’s eligibility situation included a separate NCAA issue that remained unresolved. The ruling came shortly before Texas’ SEC opener at Tennessee in Knoxville on Saturday. Sarkisian was set to speak with local media on Thursday and might offer more information about Hutson’s availability.
Texas has continued to get solid production from both guard spots. Dylan Sikorski, a transfer from Oregon State, is starting at left guard, although Western Kentucky transfer Laurence Seymore had been expected to win that job during fall camp. Quarterback Arch Manning said during camp that Hutson’s return to the team caught him off guard, but he was glad to have him back.
Offensive guard Brandon Baker said Hutson had contributed leadership and was a positive presence in the locker room, adding that Hutson had performed well during camp.
