Dare Ogunbowale is back with the Houston Texans before Week 4, giving the team four running backs ahead of its game against the Dallas Cowboys. His return follows a short stint with the Las Vegas Raiders.
Ogunbowale played for Houston from 2022 through 2025, appearing in more than 60 games. His primary role was on special teams, where he logged more than 1,000 snaps across four seasons with the Texans. He also had 91 carries for 295 yards and three touchdowns. Ogunbowale was a team captain last season, and head coach DeMeco Ryans has repeatedly praised him, according to the report.
David Montgomery and Woody Marks are expected to receive most of the offensive work at running back. British Brooks may also stay ahead of Ogunbowale on the weekly depth chart, so the veteran is not expected to immediately alter Houston's top offensive options. The reason for the move was unclear.
It could relate to a possible injury in the position group, although Week 4 injury information was not expected until after Wednesday's practice, or it could give Houston an experienced depth player for special teams. Sports Illustrated reported that Ogunbowale's leadership and special-teams experience could be valuable even with a limited offensive role.
