The Houston Texans have announced that offensive tackle Braden Smith is likely to be sidelined for a few weeks due to a plantar fascia injury in his foot. This news comes after an injury scare during a joint practice with the Carolina Panthers, as reported by KPRC 2's Aaron Wilson on August 27.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, while Smith's injury is concerning, it is not deemed severe and should not lead to a long-term absence. The Texans, who signed Smith to a two-year, $20 million contract in the offseason, anticipated his role as the starting right tackle. However, his injury raises questions about the team's offensive line.

ESPN's Adam Schefter has indicated that Smith may be out for a few weeks, which is a preferable scenario compared to more serious injuries. The Texans currently have former Pro Bowl player Trent Brown starting at right tackle, and Blake Fisher has shown promising progress this preseason, allowing the team to avoid rushing Smith back too soon.

Further updates on Smith's recovery and the offensive line situation are expected as the season nears.
