Texas Christian University (TCU) has restored media credentials for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, resolving a dispute that emerged after the newspaper reported on a locker room altercation involving former TCU safety Jacob Fields and wide receiver Dozie Ezukanma. This incident occurred on August 13 and resulted in Fields' dismissal from the team and his arrest for aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury.
Ezukanma sustained serious injuries, including a brain bleed and concussion, leading to a three-day hospitalization. TCU indicated that both parties had productive discussions and agreed to move forward. The initial revocation of the Star-Telegram's credentials garnered attention, particularly as more serious details about the incident surfaced.
Athletic director Mike Buddie raised concerns that the coverage created a harmful narrative, which led to threats against Fields and his family. After the credential revocation, the Star-Telegram was prohibited from covering TCU athletic events, including the season opener against North Carolina in Dublin, although their reporter still covered the game without official credentials.
