Southern Methodist University (SMU) has announced the appointment of Derek Gossler as the new Senior Associate Athletic Director for Revenue Generation. This move is part of the university's strategy to enhance its competitiveness in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) by prioritizing revenue generation, which is essential in contemporary college sports.
Gossler brings over 15 years of expertise in fundraising, ticketing, and commercial strategy, having most recently served at the University of Wyoming. There, he made significant strides in fundraising and ticket revenue, achieving record levels through the Cowboy Joe Club.
His previous experience includes a successful tenure at the U.S. Air Force Academy, where he contributed to five consecutive years of record fundraising, as well as a notable role at Arizona State University, where he helped raise $86 million for a major campaign.
As SMU aims to elevate its athletic programs nationally, Gossler's hiring underscores a commitment to enhancing revenue generation during the Mustangs' transition to the ACC. His plans and initiatives for increasing revenue at SMU have yet to be detailed.
