TCU has dismissed safety Jacob Fields from its football team just under two weeks before the season opener against North Carolina. This decision follows a reported physical confrontation with a teammate on August 13, as detailed in the TCU crime and fire log.
The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported that the incident was classified as aggravated assault. Sources indicated that Fields was engaged in a conflict with an offensive player and had previously expressed concerns about feeling targeted by teammates through threats and insults, including being spat on.
Before the altercation, Fields had attempted to communicate with the coaching staff about the rising tensions but did not receive any feedback. Transferring to TCU from Louisiana Tech this offseason, Fields was anticipated to be the starting free safety for the Horned Frogs.
In 2025, he earned recognition as the Co-Defensive Player of the Year in Conference USA, having started all 12 games for Louisiana Tech. Fields led the team with 92 tackles and achieved three interceptions, two of which were returned for touchdowns. He also recorded 2.5 tackles for loss and five pass breakups last season.
