The New England Patriots executed a trade on Monday, sending wide receiver Kayshon Boutte to the Houston Texans. In return, the Patriots acquired Jaylen Reed and a seventh-round draft pick for 2028.
At 24 years old, Boutte faced stiff competition for playing time after the Patriots added AJ Brown and Romeo Doubs to their roster. The receiving lineup also includes DeMario Douglas, Mack Hollins, Kyle Williams, and Efton Chism, which limited Boutte's chances on the field.
Head coach Mike Vrabel stated that this trade would provide Boutte with a better opportunity to play with the Texans instead of being sidelined in New England. He mentioned that the wide receiver position was an area of depth for the team and acknowledged the trade as beneficial for everyone involved.
Without injuries to other players, Boutte would have likely remained inactive due to his limited special teams experience.
Last season, Boutte participated in 14 games, achieving 33 receptions for 551 yards and a career-high of six touchdowns. Vrabel noted that the decision to trade him was difficult, highlighting Boutte's positive attitude and development as a player.
