Baylor is still determining its quarterback situation for the Week 3 game against Louisiana Tech, with junior DJ Lagway listed as doubtful because of an ankle sprain. Junior Nate Bennett is expected to start if Lagway cannot play, while Edward Griffin is listed as QB2 and Quinn Murphy as QB3.
Lagway was hurt in Baylor’s season-opening loss to Auburn after transferring from Florida and playing in that game. The injury kept him out of Baylor’s second contest, a win over Prairie View A&M. Coach Dave Aranda said earlier in the week that Lagway took part in a Monday walkthrough and would be evaluated through his practice work.
Bennett’s first start came against Prairie View A&M. He completed 26 of 34 passes for 314 yards and three touchdowns, added 13 rushing yards and a touchdown, and threw two interceptions. The injury is not expected to sideline Lagway for a month or longer, but his availability in an emergency against Louisiana Tech remains unclear.
On3’s Pete Nakos reported that Baylor hopes Lagway can return for its Big 12 opener against Colorado next Saturday.
