Jared Nuness, a former assistant coach with Baylor's basketball program for over ten years, has been penalized with a two-year show cause by the NCAA for infractions concerning sports betting. Nuness, who was the longest-serving assistant under head coach Scott Drew, stepped down from his position in December, citing the need to prioritize his health as a reason for his exit.
The NCAA's investigation found that Nuness engaged in prohibited sports betting activities while working at Baylor. He reportedly placed approximately 3,400 bets totaling around $38,000 from December 29, 2020, to November 28, 2025. Additionally, he permitted his son to use his betting accounts, which led to three bets totaling $170 on college sports, although none of these wagers involved Baylor's teams.
Nuness accepted full accountability for these infractions, which the NCAA categorized as Level II violations. The NCAA maintains strict rules against betting by personnel to uphold the integrity of college athletics. This case underscores ongoing issues related to sports betting in collegiate sports, as Nuness is among several individuals facing penalties for similar offenses.
