The Houston Texans have finalized a trade to bring wide receiver Kayshon Boutte from the New England Patriots. In exchange, the Texans provided a seventh-round draft pick along with safety Jayden Reed. This move follows the recent injury to second-year receiver Jayden Higgins, who sustained a torn ACL during practice.
Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans commented on the acquisition after a joint practice with the Carolina Panthers, emphasizing Boutte's potential to enhance the team's offensive capabilities. Ryans remarked, "Adding Kayshon is a big get for us," highlighting Boutte's playmaking ability and his previous experience against the Texans.
Boutte, selected in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL Draft, has shown reliable performance during his tenure with the Patriots. In the 2025 season, he achieved 33 catches for 551 yards and six touchdowns, playing a key role in the Patriots' Super Bowl run.
This season marked his second straight year with more than 30 receptions and 500 receiving yards while also increasing his touchdown total from the prior year.
The Texans aim to fill the gap left by Higgins with Boutte, who is anticipated to work alongside Nico Collins as a capable outside receiver. Ryans expressed optimism about Boutte's growth potential, noting that he remains a young player eager to develop further. The Texans are hopeful that Boutte's established performance and drive in a contract year will bolster their passing game this season.
