The Dallas Cowboys have welcomed back quarterback Joe Milton III to their practice squad after he was initially released to make room for running back Emari Demercado. Milton went unclaimed during the waiver process and chose to return to the Cowboys, even with interest from other teams for their practice squads.

Star quarterback Dak Prescott expressed his enthusiasm for Milton's return, noting the positive influence he has on the quarterback group and the team as a whole. Prescott acknowledged Milton's development over the offseason and highlighted the importance of supporting him as he adjusts to losing the QB2 role he held during the 2025 season. "It means a lot.

Just me, personally, I thought he would’ve been picked up in the waivers or whatever it is. Fortunate for us, we got a hell of a player back and a guy that makes our room better," Prescott stated. He recognized that Milton may be feeling frustrated but emphasized the need for him to channel that into continued improvement.

Milton, who was selected in the sixth round by the New England Patriots in 2024, was traded to the Cowboys before the 2025 season. His performance in the preseason showcased significant improvement, as he completed 29 of 43 passes for 378 yards, along with three touchdowns and no interceptions.

This demonstrated a marked improvement in consistency when compared to his prior season, where he participated in four games, achieving a completion rate of 62.5% with one touchdown and two interceptions.

With his return to the Cowboys, Milton is focused on building upon his preseason progress and leveraging the competitive atmosphere to further his growth as a quarterback. Prescott's leadership will be vital as Milton embarks on his third season with the team, looking to make the most of his opportunity on the practice squad.
