Tyler Smith, an offensive lineman for the Dallas Cowboys, will undergo surgery on his injured thumb. The 25-year-old is projected to be out for four to six weeks and may soon be placed on injured reserve.

In his absence, T.J. Bass is likely to step in as the starting left guard for the Cowboys as they gear up for the regular season.
