The Dallas Cowboys released running back Israel Abanikanda and added Tyler Goodson from the Atlanta Falcons, creating a roster spot after Dallas produced 69 rushing yards against the New York Giants in Week 1.
Abanikanda, a former Pitt running back, appeared in six NFL games, all for the New York Jets during the 2023 season. He did not secure a regular role in the NFL. At Pitt in 2022, he ran 239 times for 1,431 yards and 20 touchdowns.
Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer said New York’s defensive front caused problems early, with penetration disrupting the running game and Dallas being physically outplayed at the line of scrimmage. Schottenheimer said Javonte Williams also struggled to find running room at the beginning of the game, but the Cowboys made adjustments after halftime. The report was published by sports.yahoo.com.
