As the Dallas Cowboys finalize their roster for the upcoming 2026 NFL season, quarterback Joe Milton remains on the practice squad. Head coach Brian Schottenheimer expressed his happiness about Milton's return, stating he is "elated" to have him back, according to The Athletic's Jon Machota.
Milton was selected in the sixth round of the 2024 draft by the New England Patriots. He demonstrated his strong arm during the preseason, although he appeared in just one regular-season game with the Patriots. In April 2025, he was traded to the Cowboys, where he gained experience by participating in four games without a starting role.
After being waived at the end of August, Milton chose to return to the Cowboys' practice squad, reflecting his contentment with the team's trajectory. Schottenheimer and the coaching staff are pleased with Milton's choice to stay, confident that he will continue to develop.
The Cowboys will begin their 2026 season on September 13, facing off against the New York Giants, with quarterback Jaxson Dart leading the charge.
