The Dallas Cowboys have officially added linebacker Von Miller to their roster with a one-year contract. This signing aligns with the team's efforts to revamp their defense, which now includes about six new starters and a new defensive coordinator, Christian Parker. Miller, who recorded nine sacks in 2025 while playing for the Washington Commanders, aims to leverage his experience in Dallas.
Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer expressed confidence in Miller's skills, highlighting his football intelligence and quickness. Schottenheimer noted that while Miller might not be on the field for every play, his involvement is expected to significantly enhance the team's defensive capabilities. "He understands the game; the football intellect is top tier," Schottenheimer stated, praising Miller's strategic understanding of the game.
In the previous season, Miller participated in 17 games, starting three and logging 420 snaps, which represented 37 percent of the Commanders' defensive plays. In his new role with the Cowboys, he is anticipated to come in during key situations, such as third downs, while other players manage early downs.
Miller's impressive career includes being the second overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft from Texas A&M, winning the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year award, and earning Super Bowl MVP honors. He holds the record for the most sacks among active players, totaling 138.5, and is tied with Cowboys legend DeMarcus Ware for 13th all-time.
Miller is close to breaking into the top 10 with just 3.5 more sacks this season.
