Head Coach Neal Brown has raised important issues regarding the offensive line of the North Texas Mean Green as they gear up for the 2026 season. After a recent practice, Brown remarked on the unit's current state, emphasizing that improvements are necessary for the team to meet its goals.
Last season, the offensive line was pivotal in North Texas' success, helping the team achieve a national high of 49 rushing touchdowns and earning the distinction of the top-scoring offense. Notable players included Gabe Blair, who received First Team All-American Conference honors and was ranked highly by Pro Football Focus.
With all five starting offensive linemen from 2025 having departed, the team is now tasked with rebuilding this essential unit. Brown mentioned that just two players, senior Johnny Williams IV and fifth-year Chandler Strong, have demonstrated potential during fall camp, with Strong being highlighted as the standout performer.
Brown underscored the urgency of assembling a capable lineup, noting that college football requires more than two offensive linemen. He indicated that competition for all positions is open, regardless of scholarship status, as the coaching staff aims to create a strong offensive line before their first game on September 5.
The pressure is on Brown, along with offensive line coach Matt Mattox and run game coordinator Mike Bloesch, to enhance the line's performance in time for the season.
