Castellanos played against Houston last Friday. On his first play, he threw an interception while trying to put the pass beyond the sideline, Red Raiders Wire reported. Texas Tech later sent him onto the field near the goal line, where he ran 3 yards for a touchdown.
The Red Raiders added Castellanos late in preseason camp as an emergency backup, after the transfer portal had closed and Brendan Sorsby's situation had concluded. Hammond is recovering from a torn ACL, according to the report. Sports Illustrated writer Pat Forde listed Castellanos' usage among 10 questions that could influence the college football season.
His future opportunities, including possible appearances near the goal line, remain undecided.
