With the new school year beginning, Anna's school zones are back in force, and the city has published the hours drivers need to know.

The posted times, from the city's school zone safety notice:

  • Elementary: 6:55 to 7:40 a.m. and 3:35 to 4:20 p.m.
  • Middle schools: 7:50 to 8:35 a.m. and 4:30 to 5:15 p.m.
  • High school: 7:45 to 8:30 a.m. and 4:25 to 5:10 p.m.

The city's asks are the familiar ones, stated plainly in the notice: slow down, stay alert, put phones away, watch for children near crosswalks and bus stops, and stop for buses.

The board meets Monday

Anna ISD's board of trustees holds its regular meeting Monday, Aug. 17, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., the district's first regular session of the new school year. The agenda posts through the district's site ahead of the meeting.

Also on the calendar

The city has set National Night Out for Tuesday, Oct. 6, the annual evening of block parties bringing neighbors together with police and fire crews.
