Kennard leads Phoenix

Luke Kennard scored 20 points, and the Phoenix Suns held off the San Antonio Spurs 102-98 on Saturday at Mortgage Matchup Center. Phoenix played at home in front of an attendance of 17,071. Jalen Green added five assists for the Suns, while Khaman Maluach collected 15 rebounds.

The Spurs received 15 points from Dylan Harper, along with six assists from Victor Wembanyama and 10 rebounds from Luke Kornet. San Antonio remained within reach after a late push but finished four points short.

Suns establish early edge

Phoenix built a 35-25 advantage through the opening quarter, outscoring San Antonio by 10 points. The Spurs responded in the second, taking the quarter 26-23, but the Suns carried a 58-51 lead into halftime.

Kennard made three 3-pointers in the first quarter, including two during a stretch in which Phoenix extended its lead. Green also scored during the opening period, while Maluach contributed a 3-pointer in the third quarter.

San Antonio closes the gap

Phoenix added 27 points in the third quarter against 22 for San Antonio, moving into the fourth with an 85-73 lead. The Spurs then scored 25 points in the final period while limiting the Suns to 17.

San Antonio cut the margin to four points on Maliq Brown’s 26-foot 3-pointer, which made the score 102-98. The Spurs did not score again, and Phoenix finished with the victory.
