McKinney is preparing to host its annual Red, White and Boom celebration this weekend, offering residents a full day of patriotic activities. The city has outlined a schedule that begins with daytime events in the downtown area and transitions to an evening concert and light show at Towne Lake Park. McKinney is located approximately 11 miles south of Anna.
The day’s festivities commence with a parade and block party in downtown McKinney on July 4. The parade is scheduled to depart at 10 a.m., with floats traveling north along Tennessee Street and south on Kentucky Street. Following the procession, the East Louisiana Block Party will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The entire downtown segment of the event is free and open to the public.
As evening approaches, the focus shifts to Towne Lake Park, located at 14015 Wilson Creek Parkway. The park will host a concert beginning at 6 p.m. The main spectacle, a combined drone and fireworks display, is set to begin at 9:40 p.m. Fireworks will be launched from the nearby Grady Littlejohn Softball Fields.
The city has provided specific guidance for attendees regarding transportation and parking. Several lots are designated for shuttle service to Towne Lake Park, including First McKinney Baptist Church at 1615 W. Louisiana St. and the Al Ruschhaupt Soccer Complex at 1986 Park View Ave. Those preferring to walk can use the McKinney Senior Recreation Center at 1400 S. College St. or the Collin Central Appraisal District at 250 Eldorado Parkway.
Parking is not available at McKinney High School for this event. The city’s website notes that attendees may bring lawn chairs, blankets, and coolers containing food, snacks, and nonalcoholic beverages. A detailed map of the parade route, block party area, and parking locations is available on the city’s official website.
