An Army Veteran Was Given a Mortgage-Free House in Anna Town Square

An Army veteran and his family have been given a mortgage-free house in Anna, the homebuilder PulteGroup announced last week.

Spc. Branden Cason received the home in Anna Town Square, the company's community on the east side of the city. The handover was made through Built to Honor, a programme PulteGroup runs with the nonprofit Operation Homefront, which selects the recipients.

Cason had planned a career in the Army and left the service earlier than he intended.

"To go through it all and know that there are people that still take the time to put something like this together is pretty amazing," he said in the company's announcement.

About the programme

PulteGroup says Built to Honor began in 2013 and has delivered more than 80 homes nationally, which it values at over $30 million. Those figures are the company's own.

Operation Homefront is the partner that identifies and vets the families. The builder provides and finishes the house.

Why it lands here

Anna has been among the faster-growing cities in Collin County, and Anna Town Square is one of the developments driving that. A programme like this one follows construction: builders place these homes in communities they are already building, which is why the arrival of a national veterans programme in Anna is itself a marker of how much has been built here.

The announcement came from PulteGroup rather than from the city, and the company did not name the other participants in the presentation.
