Economic development organizations in Allen and McKinney have launched a collaborative initiative to market the SH 121 corridor as a single, cohesive region for business recruitment and development. The effort aims to present the area along State Highway 121 as a collective option for companies and residents considering relocation within North Texas.
The branding campaign highlights more than 20 projects currently under development or in planning stages along the highway. Key developments include the 121 Tech Park, which will feature office and tech flex space alongside townhomes, and Allen Gateway, a mixed-use project with office, retail, and residential components. Other major projects listed are The Avenue, Crestview, The Farm, and the Kalahari resort.
Officials from the McKinney Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) and the Allen Economic Development Corporation (AEDC) stated that the partnership allows them to showcase intentional growth and coordinated planning. Dan Bowman, president and CEO of AEDC, described the collaboration as a significant opportunity to attract businesses by presenting both cities as a unified market. Michael Kowski, president and CEO of MEDC, noted that the initiative signals to developers that there is a deliberate plan for the corridor’s future.
MEDC owns several properties along the corridor, including 46 acres near Lake Forest Drive and SH 121, as well as land adjacent to Hub 121 and the future Cannon Beach surf resort. Kowski said owning these parcels allows city officials to guide development more intentionally. The corporation is currently in negotiations with a development group regarding the Lake Forest Drive property.
Local developer Bucky Gillett supported the joint effort, stating that any strategy helping to drive business to the area is beneficial. The initiative’s online map and promotional materials emphasize the corridor’s commitment to quality of life and purposeful growth, positioning it as an alternative to larger, more crowded urban centers.
