Hugs Café Inc., a nonprofit focused on providing job training and employment opportunities for adults with disabilities, has inaugurated its new headquarters in McKinney. The $10 million facility, which opened on July 2, is designed to enhance the organization's capacity to prepare individuals for careers in the hospitality sector.
The new two-story building spans 13,500 square feet and consolidates the nonprofit's café, hospitality training academy, and administrative offices into a single location. It includes a training kitchen, four classrooms, a rooftop deck, and an outdoor patio, all aimed at creating a conducive learning environment.
Located at 221 Andrews St. in downtown McKinney, the facility significantly increases Hugs Café's training capacity, allowing the organization to serve up to 12 participants per class, doubling the previous number. Founder and CEO Ruth Thompson noted that the new setup enables the organization to train as many as 32 individuals in each 12-week semester.
The project was supported by a $970,000 contribution from the McKinney Community Development Corp. for infrastructure improvements. Development was managed by KDC, with architectural services provided by Corgan and construction by Brasfield & Gorrie. Construction began in May 2026, culminating in the grand opening this week.
