A Decisive Fourth Quarter

The Los Angeles Chargers established control early and maintained it through a dominant fourth-quarter performance to defeat the Houston Texans 27-7 at NRG Stadium on Friday, August 14, 2026. The victory improved the Chargers' record to 1-0, while the home team fell to 0-1 in front of an attendance of 67,655.

Early Exchange and First Half Lead

Los Angeles opened the scoring with a 34-yard field goal by Cameron Dicker, taking a 3-0 lead in the first period. The Texans responded quickly, with Davis Mills connecting on a five-yard touchdown pass to Jared Wayne, followed by a successful kick from Chris Freeman, putting Houston ahead 7-3. However, the momentum shifted before halftime.

In the second quarter, Amar Johnson broke loose for a seven-yard rushing touchdown, and Dicker’s extra point gave the Chargers a 10-7 lead heading into the break.

Defensive Stand in the Third Period

The third quarter was defined by defensive struggles for both offenses, though Los Angeles managed to extend their advantage. Cameron Dicker added another field goal, this time from 48 yards out, making the score 13-7 at the start of the final period. Houston’s offense struggled to find rhythm against the Chargers' defense, unable to mount any significant drives during this frame.

Johnson’s Impact and Late Touchdowns

The game was largely sealed in the fourth quarter. Amar Johnson continued his efficient night with a one-yard touchdown run, followed by a two-point conversion run by Johnson himself, pushing the score to 21-7. Shortly after, DJ Uiagalelei threw a three-yard touchdown pass to Devonte Ross. Although Cameron Dicker’s point-after attempt failed, the six points secured the outcome. The final score stood at 27-7.

Davis Mills completed nine of 15 passes for 82 yards and one touchdown for Houston. Noah Whittington led the Texans' ground game with 13 carries for 40 yards, while rookie Marlin Klein contributed a single reception for 31 yards. For Los Angeles, Trey Lance threw for 164 yards and added 27 rushing yards on three carries, though he also threw an interception.
