Spencer Shrader’s 53-yard field goal, which landed with just 16 seconds remaining on the clock, proved to be the decisive play in a 19-17 victory for the Indianapolis Colts over the Houston Texans on Sunday at Lucas Oil Stadium. The win improved Indianapolis to a 1-2 record, while the visiting Texans fell to 0-3.
With 63,400 fans in attendance, the game featured a back-and-forth scoring sequence that kept the outcome uncertain until the final moments of the fourth quarter.
Early Momentum Shifts
The Colts established an early lead in the first period when Shrader connected on a 39-yard field goal, putting Indianapolis up 3-0. The Texans mounted a final drive, culminating in a 1-yard rushing touchdown by Woody Marks, which gave Houston a 17-16 lead.
The game appeared to be heading toward a potential upset or overtime, but the Colts responded immediately. Shrader returned to the field for the final time, successfully converting a 53-yard field goal to restore the lead and secure the 19-17 final score.

Daniel Jones led the Colts with 235 passing yards on 24 of 36 attempts, throwing one touchdown and one interception. Jonathan Taylor carried the ball 23 times for 68 yards, while Josh Downs contributed 77 receiving yards on five catches. For the Texans, C.J.
Stroud completed 16 of 27 passes for 167 yards and one touchdown. David Montgomery rushed for 33 yards on 11 carries, and Xavier Hutchinson caught three passes for 51 yards. Despite the loss, the Texans showed resilience in the second half, but the Colts’ ability to convert in high-pressure situations sealed the result.
