Clement’s 10th-inning homer sends Blue Jays past Astros, 5-4

Clement delivers late

Three home runs shaped the scoring, and Clement supplied the one that decided it. Clement homered to left in the 10th inning, a 391-foot drive that brought in Urías and gave the Toronto Blue Jays a 5-3 lead over the Houston Astros on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at Daikin Park in Houston.

The Astros answered in the bottom of the 10th when Alvarez singled to right, scoring Peña. Alvarez was out stretching at second on the play, and Houston challenged, but the call on the field was upheld. That left Toronto with a 5-4 win.

Astros strike first

Houston took control in the third inning. Altuve opened the scoring with a 401-foot homer to left, giving the Astros a 1-0 lead. Walker followed later in the inning with a double to left that scored Varsho, and Wade Jr. singled to center to bring in Walker for a 3-0 Houston advantage.

Toronto did not score until the sixth inning. Okamoto singled to center, scoring Straw to make it 3-1. Sánchez then homered to right, a 398-foot shot that brought in Okamoto and tied the game at 3.

Those were the only three home runs of the game: Altuve’s solo homer in the third, Sánchez’s two-run homer in the sixth and Clement’s two-run homer in the 10th.

Pitching holds the margin

Jameson Taillon worked 4.0 innings for Toronto, allowing six hits and three earned runs with two walks and four strikeouts. Spencer Miles followed with 2.0 innings, allowing two hits with no earned runs, no walks and two strikeouts.

Mason Fluharty pitched 1.0 inning with no hits, no earned runs, no walks and two strikeouts. Tyler Rogers went 1.0 inning, allowing one hit with no earned runs and no walks. Louis Varland earned the win, moving to 4-4, after 1.0 inning with no hits, no earned runs, no walks and one strikeout.

Chase Lee recorded his first save after 1.0 inning, allowing one hit with no earned runs and no walks.

For Houston, Hunter Brown went 6.0 innings, allowing three hits and three earned runs with two walks and eight strikeouts. Steven Okert, Bryan Abreu and Josh Hader each pitched 1.0 scoreless inning. Bennett Sousa took the loss, falling to 0-1, after 1.0 inning with two hits, one earned run, no walks and one strikeout.

Records

The announced attendance was 27,751. Houston fell to 59-57, while Toronto improved to 54-61.
