Cole Young provided the decisive blow for the Seattle Mariners with a three-run home run in the ninth inning, capping off an offensive outburst that carried his team to a 10-5 victory over the Houston Astros. The Mariners’ slugger also contributed an RBI single earlier in the game and drove in two more runs on a double play-less sequence, finishing with four RBIs total.
Young’s ninth-inning blast traveled 358 feet to right field, extending Seattle’s lead from 7-4 to 10-4. His earlier contribution came in the fourth inning when he scored on a single by Donovan, and he also crossed home plate in the second inning on a double by Robles.
Game Flow
The Astros took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning when Alvarez scored after Altuve reached on an infield single. However, Seattle responded immediately in the bottom of the second inning. Young scored on an infield single, followed by two more runs on a triple by Robles and a sacrifice fly situation that saw Donovan score.
The Mariners added another run when Vázquez homered 361 feet to left field, making it 4-2.
Houston’s offense managed to cut the deficit in the eighth inning. Paredes hit a two-run homer 407 feet to left-center field, and Peña scored on the same play. Walker later added an RBI groundout in the ninth, making the final score 10-5.
