Imai’s ability to neutralize the Marlins' offense was the cornerstone of the Astros' victory, as he navigated through the early innings with precision despite issuing three walks.
The bullpen provided critical support after Imai’s departure. AJ Blubaugh pitched one inning, surrendering two earned runs on three hits while striking out three. Bennett Sousa followed with a scoreless frame, recording one strikeout to preserve the lead. Josh Hader closed the game with his 11th save, retiring the side in order with one strikeout to seal the 5-3 final score.
Offensive Surge in the Fifth
The game remained tight until the fifth inning, when the Astros’ offense exploded. After trailing 2-1, Houston broke the game open with a three-run homer by Paredes to left field (388 feet). The blast drove in Peña and Alvarez, shifting the momentum entirely. Prior to that, Stowers had doubled to center to score Lopez, cutting the deficit to one run earlier in the same inning.
The Astros had taken an early 1-0 lead in the first inning when Peña homered to left center (405 feet). Although an umpire review overturned the call on the field, the run stood, giving Houston the initial advantage. Miami responded in the second inning when Spence doubled to right, allowing Wade Jr. to score and putting Walker on third, making it 2-1.
