Strong Start from the Mound
The Houston Astros secured a 4-0 victory over the Athletics on Saturday, August 22, at Daikin Park in Houston, Texas. The home team improved to a 65-64 record, while the visiting Athletics fell to 49-80. Attendance was 28,477. The Astros' offense was efficient, scoring four runs without allowing a single one in return.
Offense Sets the Tone
Yordan Alvarez was the standout performer for Houston, driving in two runs and collecting two hits. The game remained scoreless through three innings. In the bottom of the fourth, Jose Paredes scored on a sacrifice fly to center field hit by Walker.
The Astros extended their lead in the fifth inning. Alvarez doubled to center field to score Jordan Allen. Later in the same frame, Paredes doubled to right field, allowing Alvarez to score.
The final run came in the seventh inning when Alvarez doubled to shortstop, scoring Luis Delgado. There were no home runs hit by either team during the contest.
Pitching Performance
Hayden Wesneski earned the win with a strong outing. He pitched five innings, allowing one hit and three walks while striking out four batters. He did not allow any earned runs.
