Home Depot, which employs about 134 people in Anna according to the city's 2025 annual financial report, has opened a new store in Peñitas, in the Rio Grande Valley west of McAllen. The company announced the opening on Oct. 2.
The store, at 1901 Liberty Blvd., is one of 12 new U.S. locations Home Depot plans to add during 2026. The company said the expansion is meant to keep up with demand from new home construction and from owners repairing older houses.
Who runs it
Store No. 6536 is led by a manager the company identifies only as Lee, a 23-year Home Depot employee. He joined the company part time in the electrical department, later worked as an assistant store manager and was promoted to store manager in 2019. Before moving to Peñitas he ran stores in Harlingen and North Brownsville.
"In addition to developing our associates and leadership team, I'm looking forward to introducing our culture and values to our new associates and the community," Lee said in the company's announcement, adding that he was most excited about giving back.
