Rakell Decides It

With 18,192 in attendance, Rickard Rakell scored the final shootout goal Saturday, lifting the Pittsburgh Penguins to a 2-1 victory over the Dallas Stars at PPG Paints Arena.

The game was tied after regulation, with each team scoring once in the third period. The Penguins then prevailed in the shootout to finish the home victory.

Third-Period Tradeoff

Neither team scored in the opening period, and the second also ended without a goal. The score remained 0-0 after two periods.

Pittsburgh opened the scoring in the third when Connor Dewar converted a backhand for his first goal. Blake Lizotte assisted on the play.

Dallas answered when Tyler Seguin scored his first goal on a tip-in. Jason Robertson and Miro Heiskanen assisted, sending the game to a shootout tied 1-1.

Shootout Sequence

Ben Kindel scored on a wrist shot in the shootout, followed by Sidney Crosby. Seguin then scored on a wrist shot, and Wyatt Johnston followed with another wrist shot before Rakell scored on his attempt.

The period scoring was Dallas 0, 0, 1, 0, 0 and Pittsburgh 0, 0, 1, 0, 1, with the final column reflecting the shootout result.

Dewar finished with one goal and one point for Pittsburgh, while Lizotte recorded one assist. Seguin had one goal and one point for Dallas, and Heiskanen finished with one assist.

Records

The Penguins moved to 3-2-1 with seven points after the game. The Stars are 2-2-1 with five points.
