Late Surge Decides High-Scoring Affair
CeeDee Lamb’s 12-yard reception from Dak Prescott in the final minutes provided the decisive blow, allowing the visiting Dallas Cowboys to defeat the host Houston Texans 34-30 on Sunday at Reliant Stadium. The game featured a high volume of scoring, with both teams exchanging leads throughout the contest before Dallas secured the win in front of a crowd of 71,227.
The result leaves the Cowboys with a 2-2 record, while the Texans drop to 0-4 on the season.
Early Field Goal Exchange
The first quarter saw Houston take an early lead with a 7-yard pass from C.J. Stroud to Nico Collins. The Cowboys responded with a 39-yard field goal by Brandon Aubrey, but the Texans extended their advantage with a 51-yard kick from Ka'imi Fairbairn.
The second quarter continued the pattern of kicking, as Aubrey added a 50-yard field goal to narrow the gap. Fairbairn then struck twice for Houston, converting 39-yard and 54-yard field goals to give the home team a 16-6 lead at halftime.
Third-Quarter Trade
The momentum shifted in the third quarter when Dallas began to find the end zone. Javonte Williams rushed for an 8-yard touchdown, cutting the deficit to one point. Houston reasserted control with a 22-yard pass from Stroud to Collins.
However, Williams answered with a 1-yard run to give Dallas a 20-13 lead heading into the final period. This sequence highlighted Williams’ impact, as he would eventually rush for 62 yards and three touchdowns on 19 carries.
Fourth-Quarter Thrill
The fourth quarter opened with Dallas extending their lead via a 2-yard run by Williams. The Texans responded with a 6-yard rush by Woody Marks to tie the game at 27 points apiece. However, the final play of the game belonged to Dallas.
Prescott connected with Lamb for the 12-yard touchdown that proved the difference. Prescott finished with 335 passing yards on 32-of-45 attempts, while Lamb had a dominant performance with 17 receptions for 189 yards. For Houston, Stroud completed 21 of 31 passes for 347 yards and two touchdowns, and Collins caught seven passes for 118 yards and two scores.
